Tropical North Queensland wows Toowoomba travel agents

The agents explored Tropical North Queensland on March 14-19 with three different itineraries from Mission Beach to Cooktown, including time spent in the iconic World Heritage Wet Tropics Rainforest and on the Great Barrier Reef.

A travel agent who sells Tropical North Queensland holidays using Airnorth’s Toowoomba to Cairns flights secured 99 visitor nights for the destination just days after experiencing it for herself.

Sam Newmarch from helloworld was among a group of 14 agents from the Toowoomba region on a familiarisation of Tropical North Queensland organised by Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) and Airnorth to mark the first anniversary of the Toowoomba to Cairns direct service.

Her enthusiasm for Tropical North Queensland enabled her to book a family of nine for 11 nights in the region.

“The highlight was our trip with Ocean Safari out to the Reef from Cape Tribulation. Not only did we get to see turtles, but we actually snorkelled alongside them. The water was crystal clear and just so calm with not a ripple in sight,” she said.

TTNQ Chief Executive Officer Alex de Waal said this was the first visit to Tropical North Queensland for many of the agents, and it gave them a fantastic opportunity to experience first-hand the beauty and diversity of the destination.

“Airnorth operates three times a week between Toowoomba and Cairns, providing the perfect holiday option as temperatures started to fall in the south and services will increase during Winter,” he said.

“Tropical North Queensland is regarded as one of the best places in the world to engage with nature, and the agents certainly had the chance to put this to the test.

“They spent time getting up close with our wildlife, immersing themselves in our Indigenous culture and sampling the tropical lifestyle we as locals enjoy every day.

“We received excellent feedback from the agents who said they couldn’t wait to sell more diverse itineraries to Tropical North Queensland and one agent is planning to bring her family here for a holiday.

“They praised the mix of activities that showcase Tropical North Queensland, said the food was exceptional and found the tour guides to be full of information and very passionate about their jobs.

“Among the highlights for many of the agents was seeing the Great Barrier Reef which one said was by far one of the most educational and amazing experiences she had ever had in her life.”
