BANGKOK – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with Japan-based Bando Golf Club and Samurai Communication (Thailand), recently launched the first Thailand and Japan Golf Festival, featuring four key golf tournaments taking place during this month.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “People across Asia know that Thailand has some of the best golf courses and facilities in the region. The Japanese are among the world’s biggest golf lovers, so we wholeheartedly welcome them to Thailand to enjoy friendly competition on amazing greens. This festival also allows us to mark 130 years of official relations between Japan and Thailand, and I hope this event will bring our countries even closer.”
The Thailand and Japan Golf Festival comprised four key golf tournaments:
- Two-days golf events in collaboration with Zen Golf Competition Pro Amateur at Lakewood Links Country Club in Samut Prakan on 11 and 12 February
- A golf event in collaboration with HIS, one of Japan’s largest travel companies, at Lotus Valley Golf Resort in Chachoengsao on 18 February
- A golf event at Bangkok Golf Club in Pathum Thani on 18 February
- The Honda LPA Thailand 2017 HIS Golf Watching Tour Round on 23-26 February at Siam Country Club Old Course in Pattaya

Mr. Yuthasak said, “In 2016, Thailand welcomed 1.43 million tourists from Japan, up 4.19 percent on the previous year. However, there are over nine million regular golfers in Japan. So we hope that this Thailand and Japan Golf Festival 2017 will stimulate more Japanese golfers to visit Thailand and enjoy the many excellent golfing opportunities here.”
Thailand boasts a number of world-class golf courses nationwide, with state-of-the-art facilities and services, including experienced caddies, wonderful accommodation, and excellent activities. The kingdom also hosts many international golf tournaments every year including the Honda LPGA Thailand and Thailand Golf Championship which attract a large number of professional players and spectators.
In addition, Thailand’s golf destinations have been recognised by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) several times. This includes Chiang Mai, which has been named the Next Golf Destination of the Year 2017 in the Asia & Australasia region. Prior to that, Pattaya was named Golf Destination of the Year in 2006 and 2010; Hua Hin received the award in 2012; and Prachuap Khiri Khan in 2014.
