There was an extra winner at Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia‘s 16th Annual Cruise Industry AwardsMercy Ships.

In a bid to raise funds and awareness for Mercy Ships, CLIA’s global charity of choice, CLIA conducted a special raffle at its gala event.

After watching an emotive video highlighting the impressive work done by Mercy Ships, the 500 industry members attending the awards dug deep to support the worthy cause, well exceeding the $5000 target.

Mercy Ships operates floating hospitals that cruise around the world providing free, world-class healthcare services, to the developing world. The organisation also provides training for medical professionals, along with curative surgical interventions, which have led to countless life-changing operations.

“The work that Mercy Ships is doing is unique and our partnership is a natural fit. As the world’s largest cruise industry association, CLIA and its members are bringing tremendous value to our organisation and we’re proud to have their support,” Managing Director for Mercy Ships Australia Alan Burrell said.

The Cruise Industry Awards were held at The Star Event Centre on Saturday night.
