To book months ahead or just weeks? Hack the best deals with Skyscanner’s best time to book

Are you Kiasu, Kan Chiong or Super Lepak? While not everyone can book flights months in advance, Skyscanner reveals how good deals can still be enjoyed weeks before departure!

SINGAPORE – Global travel search engine Skyscanner has revealed the Best Time to Book flights from Singapore in 2017. For travellers who want to get the best prices on their air tickets, Skyscannner’s Best Time to Book data highlights insider tips and tricks on how to bag a bargain when flying from Singapore this year.

Skyscanner reveals that the best time to book flights to 10 of Singapore’s most loved destinations – including Bangkok, Bali and Hong Kong – is between 21–25 weeks in advance. Travellers leveraging this booking window can benefit from average savings of 21–22%. For Krabi, savings of as much as 32% can be enjoyed when booking 24 weeks in advance.

Contrary to popular belief, travellers do not always need to book months in advance to avoid hefty price increases, as there are a few sweet-spot weeks closer to departure. Singapore-outbound travellers booking and planning their air tickets less than two months in advance can still enjoy just 10% price hikes.

To avoid high price increases, travellers looking to visit Bali and Hong Kong should book their tickets four weeks in advance, while those interested in Phuket and Jakarta have a lead time of three weeks. Travellers looking for last minute getaways can consider visiting Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, where they can still book two weeks in advance, before prices increase by more than 10%.

By saving on flights, travellers are free to spend more at their destination of choice – be that on hotels, car rental, or restaurants and sightseeing. But what we also want to highlight this year is really the ‘sweet spot’ deals, where Singaporean’s can book flights  just a few weeks in advance and still enjoy great deals – without having to plan months ahead,” said Pamela Knaggs, Marketing Manager, Singapore and Malaysia, Skyscanner.

For the Super Kiasu travellers who tend to book months in advance can enjoy savings of up to 32% by booking 24–25 weeks for the very best deals. While travellers who are Not-So-Kan-Chiong fall in this ‘sweet spot’ where price increases are no more than 10%. For travellers who are Super Lepak and chill about their travel booking, they may pay up to 24% premiums on tickets,” Knaggs added.
