New South Wales home to one of the world’s best hotels

New South Wales (NSW) has cemented its position as home to one of the world's best hotel with the naming of Halcyon House as the Best Smith Hotel in the coveted international Australian Open.

Halcyon House, located on Cabarita Beach in Northern NSW opened in 2015 to much fanfare. Originally a 1960s surfer motel, the restoration of the boutique beachfront property has resulted in a stunning blend of luxury and beachside elegance. With 21-rooms and an award-winning restaurant Paper Daisy, the hotel offers leisure activities including private surfing lessons, a concierge beach service and complimentary bicycles to explore the coastal area.

James Lohan, founder, Mr & Mrs Smith said, “As the only category voted for by the public (over 25,000 people this year), Best Smith Hotel is a serious accolade. Halcyon House burst on to the scene and has since become one of the most impressive boltholes on our books. With it’s good looks and down to earth charm, it’s a well deserved winner.”

In another nod for NSW, Mr & Mrs Smith named Sydney’s The Old Clare Hotel as Best Gourmet Getaway. Located in the reimagined Chippendale precinct, the hotel boasts 62-rooms, and notable restaurants Automata and Kensington Street Social.

Halcyon House and The Old Clare Hotel are the only Australian hotels to win in their respective categories in the Mr & Mrs Smith Hotel Awards.
