Shiba Park Hotel in Tokyo to hold “Bon-Dancing & Summer Festival” event

Shiba Park Hotel hopes that all guests will enjoy experiencing Japanese seasonal culture and customs and that their experience will last as an unforgettable memory of their visit to Tokyo.

TOKYO – Shiba Park Hotel in Tokyo announced on July 11 that it will hold an event on July 28 & 29, 2017, to experience a “Bon-dancing” festival at Zojoji Temple. The event is designed to allow guests from overseas to experience and enjoy Japanese culture and customs.

Bon” is an event in Japan to worship the spirit of ancestors. Nowadays, the religious meaning has softened, and the festival is enjoyed as a recreational event.

At the event, hotel staff dressed in “yukata” summer kimono will introduce the “bon” custom, and escort guests to participate in the Bon-dancing & Summer Festival at Zojoji Temple. Guests at Shiba Park Hotel are welcome to join the event without any fee.

Shiba Park Hotel President Rentaro Yanase said: “Bon is a traditional Japanese event to pray for the ancestors while dancing. I hope that guests will become familiar with Japanese ‘bon’ culture through this event.”

Japanese Culture Salon SAKURA Manager Yuka Inoue said: “We hope to share the Japanese traditional ‘bon-dancing’ custom with guests from overseas, and enjoy the Japanese summer festival together.”
