LATAM Airlines to launch its longest non-stop flight ever between Santiago and Melbourne, Australia

SANTIAGO, Chile – LATAM Airlines Group (‘LATAM’) announced it will operate a new, non-stop service between Santiago and Melbourne, Australia, from 5 October 2017.  

 

The westbound Santiago-Melbourne leg – measuring more than 11,000 km in distance with a flight time of approximately 15 hours – will become the longest non-stop flight in LATAM´s history.

 

LATAM will operate three non-stop flights per week between Santiago and Melbourne, becoming the first airline group to offer a direct service between the two cities, as well as the only carrier to fly non-stop between Melbourne and Latin America. After Sydney, Melbourne will be the second city in Australia served by the airline group.

LATAM currently operates seven flights per week from Santiago to Sydney (via Auckland, New Zealand). In 2015, the airline introduced the Boeing 787-9 aircraft to the route, increasing capacity by 27 per cent. In total, LATAM transports approximately 190,000 passengers per year between Latin America and Oceania.

 

With the new direct Melbourne service, LATAM estimates that it will transport an additional 75,000 passengers between the two continents each year.

 

When operations commence on 5 October 2017, LATAM Airlines Group flight LA805 will depart Santiago (SCL) at 12:55 (local time) on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving in Melbourne (MEL) at 17:55 (local time) the next day, with a journey time of 15 hours. 

 

The return flight, LA804, will depart Melbourne at 19:55 (local time) on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving in Santiago at 19:00 the same day (local time), with a journey time of 13 hours 5 minutes.*

LATAM’s oneworld partners offer onward connections from Melbourne to cities throughout Australia including Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth as well as to destinations across Asia ranging from the metropolises of Hong Kong, Singapore and Beijing to the tourist capitals of Bangkok and Bali.  

 

Santiago is one of LATAM’s principal hubs and offers onward connections to an unrivalled 124 destinations throughout Chile and Latin America, including direct services to major cities such as São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogota and Quito. LATAM also serves the region’s principal tourist destinations including Machu Picchu in Peru (via Cuzco), Torres del Paine National Park (via Puerto Natales/Punta Arenas, Chile), the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador, Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, Iguazú Falls (via Puerto Iguazú, Argentina) and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

 

The service will be operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 220 seats in Economy, 54 seats in Space + and 30 seats in Premium Business, offering 180-degree lie-flat seats. 

 

Seats in all cabin classes feature individual touchscreen in-flight entertainment systems, offering a wide selection of movies, TV series, music and games.

 

Premium Business passengers will be able to enjoy priority airport services, spacious lie-flat seats and a newly-designed food and wine offering that showcases Latin American produce.
