Trio of awards recognise New Zealand as a top luxury travel destination

Tourism New Zealand has collected three awards that recognise New Zealand’s attractive luxury travel experience offering.

Two awards were presented at the recent Luxperience trade event in Sydney. The event attracts hundreds of luxury travel buyers and media.

Tourism New Zealand won the prestigious ‘Destination Award’ which is awarded to the destination that best incorporates luxury travel as a key contributor to attracting visitors. It was the second year in a row Tourism New Zealand has taken the award home.

“Winning the Destination award again is confirmation that our work to attract more high value visitors to New Zealand is working and that it is an important part of Tourism New Zealand’s overall strategy to showcase New Zealand to the world,” says Lisa Gardiner, Premium and Business Events Manager.

Tourism New Zealand also took home one of the newly created awards for their display area at the Luxperience event.

“Our presence drew in the crowds for the impressive range of premium New Zealand luxury offerings including luxury lodges and stunning travel experiences like private helicopter tours. New Zealand is unique in offering so many luxury products in one place, it gives consumers choice and the ability to create unique itineraries.”

“Adding to the drama of our display was a New Zealand scenery themed bodypainted work. The impressive piece was created by Sofia Bue, an award winning artist for Weta Workshop and it really helped give us the wow factor. The piece was painted over a number of hours and it encouraged people back to our display area to see it evolve. The end design captured the essence of our latest luxury marketing campaign ‘perfection from every perspective’ really well.”

“Feedback about our awards was incredibly positive and referenced that New Zealand offers a unique form of luxury, one that is authentic and honest, and reflects the landscape and the people. This praise really appeals to international travellers looking for a luxury experience.”

Murray McCaw of luxury lodge, Bay of Many Coves says; “Tourism New Zealand once again did an outstanding job at showcasing the range of luxury offerings New Zealand has to offer. The display was really creative and reflected the unique and varied luxury experience we can offer the world.”

Lisa Gardiner, Premium and Business Events Manager adds “Attracting high value visitors to New Zealand is a key part of Tourism New Zealand’s strategy so this kind of exposure is fantastic,”

Luxury travel to New Zealand is on the rise. International visitor revenue figures from the 29 members of the Luxury Lodges of New Zealand reported an increase of 20.3 per cent in revenue for the summer October 2015 – March 2016 period compared to the same period in 2014-2015. Full year results are also up, with 20.8 per cent growth for the year ending March 2016

The two Luxperience awards came on the back of Tourism New Zealand being named “Tourist Board of the Year 2016” in August by the US luxury travel network, Virtuoso, again for the second year in a row.

The awards are voted on by Virtuoso’s community of luxury travel advisors and the win reaffirms New Zealand’s position as a leading Tourism Board and destination for luxury travel.
