TAT launches A Touch of Thai Vehicles project with new creative travel experience

A Touch of Thai Vehicles project provides new experiences for visitors, especially FITs, including family, lady, and baby boomers groups.

BANGKOK – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launched 8 creative travel experiences in 4 provinces using local vehicles at the TAT Head Office. This highlights Tuk Tuk in Bangkok, Ruea Hua Tong (long-tail boat) in Krabi, Horse-drawn Carriage in Lampang and Skylab (Motor-tricycle) in Loei to show visitors the charms of Thainess.

“A Touch of Thai Vehicles” project creates innovative travel routes using local rides and at the same time uplift the service quality and good image of local vehicles across Thailand. Under the “Discover Thainess” campaign, Thailand’s local vehicles will be a vital add up to other Thainess experiences. TAT has constantly promoted “Local Experience” in Thailand; letting visitors from around the world get an authentic touch of Thainess. Therefore, the development of travel routes using local vehicles provides real excitement and a distinct perspective for visitors.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor addressed that “Travelling by local vehicles will open up a new perspective of discovering Thainess. Many times, travellers especially foreign tourists who travel on their own, or Foreign Independent Travellers know very well that they have to try a Tuk Tuk in Bangkok or Horse-drawn Carriage in Lampang. The question is how can they take these vehicles while having other local and community-based experiences at the same time”.

The event also sees the participation of Ms. Aniporn “Nat” Chalermburanawong, Miss Universe Thailand 2015 and the winner of the Best Costume Award with her extraordinary dress “Tuk Tuk Thailand” at the Miss Universe 2015 beauty contest and Mr. Ray Macdonald, Thai actor and TV host, who runs the show “TT RIDER”, a travel programme using a Tuk Tuk to travel across Thailand.

Mr. Yuthasak said, “Our 8 new creative routes that will be operated by local vehicles in 4 provinces are very practical and hands-on, and can be pursued by any traveller. In Lampang, not only will you take a chill ride around the city, your journey will let you learn about Lampang back in the time of 3 ancient eras. We are promoting a night tour of Bangkok and our Magnificent Lights of Old Town Bangkok route that will allow visitors to experience Bangkok in a new way. A tour by Ruea Hua Tong, Krabi’s iconic long-tail boat, will bring to you cruise along Khlong Marui in Ao Luk district to find tranquility and serenity like you find in Guilin or Halong Bay. Even in Krabi city, you can experience the “unseen” mangrove tunnel, which is very unique and astonishing.”

“Our routes will cater to people who love to travel by themselves. For example in Chiang Khan, it would be difficult for travellers without a car. On our route, travellers can take a Skylab to travel around Chiang Khan including visiting Ban Na Pa Nat to learn about Tai Dam culture. These local vehicle routes will provide opportunities for visitors to connect with the locals and hence support local communities.” He added.

A Touch of Thai Vehicles project provides new experiences for visitors, especially FITs, including family, lady, and baby boomers groups. These high-quality groups of travellers will be able to experience Thainess through the rides on local vehicles.
