TAT supports World Gourmet Festival 2016 and welcomes Michelin Starred Chefs to Bangkok

The World Gourmet Festival is an annual celebration of food, and each year attracts big name chefs, wine makers and lovers of fine food.

BANGKOK – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is lending its support to the 17th World Gourmet Festival from 19 to 25 September, 2016. This culinary event, hosted by the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, will see some of the world’s best chefs pack their knives and aprons and head to Bangkok to wow food lovers with their skills.

The World Gourmet Festival is an annual celebration of food, and each year attracts big name chefs, wine makers and lovers of fine food, who come together from all over the world to put together fine meals, share expertise and treat people to amazing international dishes. This year’s event will also raise money for good causes and help to enhance Bangkok’s reputation as the region’s culinary capital.

A smorgasbord of nine talented chefs will be in Bangkok for the Gourmet Festival, six of whom hold Michelin Stars. These include Chef Anthony Genovese of Il Pagliaccio Restaurant in Rome, who has two Michelin Stars; Chef Kanesaka Shinji, whose Shinji by Kanesaka Restaurant at Singapore’s Raffles Hotel has two Michelin Stars, Chef Mauro Colagreco, with two Michelin Stars for his Mirazur Restaurant in France, Chef Hideaki Sato, whose Ta Vie in Hong Kong has got one Michelin Star, Chef Josean Alija, who has received one Michelin star for Nerua Restaurant in Spain, and Chef Marco Stabile, with one Michelin Star for his Ora d’Aria at Florence, Italy. Joining them will be three other chefs who are known for sumptuous dishes representing several world cuisines.

               Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “Bangkok enjoys a reputation as a centre of culinary excellence. Several of the city’s restaurants have won international awards and recognition, and many world renowned chefs have opened restaurants here. This is all in addition to the amazing Thai and street food that can be enjoyed by locals and visitors around the clock. So it seems natural to host a gourmet festival in a city that celebrates food and fine dining every day.”

Each of the guest chefs will host two evenings in the Anantara Siam Bangkok’s restaurants and drink experts will host a cocktail master class, a gin master class and a sake tasting event, which will see sake from Miyasaka Brewing Company paired with Thai dishes.

On the final day of the Gourmet Festival will be the popular World Gourmet Brunch, on Sunday, 25 December. This will give people a chance to try out the mouth-watering creations of the chefs. This event will be hosted by Bobby Chinn, a respected chef and Hanoi-based TV personality. There will also be an auction to raise money for the Thai Red Cross Society. In addition, 600 Baht from each ticket sold for the event will be given to the charity.

“All Thai people love their food, not just eating it, but talking about it, sharing recipes and learning about new dishes to try, so we welcome the 17th Gourmet Festival Bangkok as an important event on our culinary calendar,” said Mr. Yuthasak.
