Sydney International Boat Show drops last anchor at Glebe Island

The Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS) 2016 droped anchor on Thursday 28 July and will run through to 1 August in two locations. The large on-water luxury vessels will be hosted at Darling Harbour while trailer boats and associated gear will be on display undercover at Glebe Island. Once again, the free ferry service connects the two locations.

SYDNEY, Australia – If chilly temperatures have everyone counting the days until spring arrives, Sydney has the perfect panacea – the biggest recreational marine event in the southern hemisphere and not long to go until show time.

The Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS) 2016 droped anchor on Thursday 28 July and will run through to 1 August in two locations. Pre-event sales are strong and over 200 exhibitors are eagerly settling into their show berths at Cockle Bay Marina in Darling Harbour and on the 20,000m2 show floor at Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island (SEC @GI). The large on-water luxury vessels will be hosted at Darling Harbour while trailer boats and associated gear will be on display undercover at Glebe Island. Once again, the free ferry service connects the two locations.

Leading brands and manufacturers and a host of maritime businesses serving the boating community are returning to the Boat Show, as well as the popular Boating Safety Zone and the purpose-built wharfside Life Jacket Lounge. Late night hours of up to 7pm on Friday and Saturday will give boating enthusiasts more time to browse and buy.

As organiser of the event, the Boating Industry Association (BIA) is going all out once more to offer visitors a multi-faceted maritime experience. “The Boat Show is on its 49th year – we’re drawing on decades of experience to showcase the boating lifestyle and deliver knowledge, inspiration, a lot of education, and entertainment,” said Howard Glenn, Chief Executive of the Boating Industry Association.

SIBS is the largest event remaining in the SEC@GI calendar and one of the most challenging. “The Show has complex logistics including a 6-day move in and a 2 1/2- day move out of hundreds of boats in all shapes and sizes. But every year we’re excited to welcome it back – this time even more so with both BIA and our team committed to making this the best Boat Show at Glebe Island yet,” said Malu Barrios, General Manager of SEC@GI.

Partnering with BIA for the past three years to deliver the show across dual locations for the first time has shown organiser-venue team collaboration at its best. No doubt the knowledge acquired in moving a large-scale, high profile event like SIBS to a new venue will be put to work next year.

The Boat Show is on its third and final year at Glebe Island and is slated to return in full to Darling Harbour and International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney) in August 2017, where it will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
