NSW budget supporting export tourism growth

ATEC was already helping businesses to connect with the the international tourism market, worth more than $9 billion to the NSW economy, through its Know-How for Inbound Tourism Excellence (KITE) program.

NSW’s Budget delivers a solid boost to the State’s ability to harness international tourism through additional funding for Destination NSW, international events and a focus on small business export capacity.

“The budget delivered by the NSW Government on June 21, shows a clear commitment to export tourism and a recognition of the significant contribution our industry is making to the overall success of NSW’s economy,” ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley said on June 21.

“Export tourism has a strong future, with NSW recording a significant 9% growth in visitor numbers and 20% growth in spending by international visitors in the past 12 months – so it clearly is a sector of the economy worth investing in.”

“Along with additional funding to help secure the events which will attract even more international visitors, the budget outlines an investment in supporting small businesses to enhance their export ability, a measure we strongly support.”

“As highlighted by NSW Tourism Minister, Stuart Ayres at ATEC’s Industry Leaders Luncheon last week, another key element of a strong visitor economy is creating greater capacity in our regions and encouraging regional dispersal of our international tourists.”

Mr Shelley said ATEC was already helping businesses to connect with the the international tourism market, worth more than $9 billion to the NSW economy, through its Know-How for Inbound Tourism Excellence (KITE) program.

“International visitors are not ‘one-size-fits-all’ so tourism businesses need to understand how to adjust their product offering in order get the most out of each individual market and ensure they have long term success.”

“There needs to be a strong connection between driving visitation, and enabling tourism businesses, to ensure they can meet the needs of existing and emerging markets.”

“This budget recognises the success already being delivered as a result of a strong tourism plan, outlined under the Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan, and provides continued investment in tourism’s growth into the future.”

“We congratulate the NSW Government on delivering a positively focused budget which will strengthen one of the State’s strongest growing sectors.”
