Tourico Holidays triples first quarter room nights sold from China

Bookings to Chicago from China increased by 320 percent in the first quarter of 2016, compared to the same time last year. London, New York City, Paris, and Los Angeles all significantly increased their bookings from China in the first quarter, as well – with 250 percent, 148 percent, 119 percent, and 75 percent increases respectively.

SHANGHAI – Tourico Holidays, a global leader in wholesale travel brokerage, reported significant growth in room nights sold from China during the first quarter of 2016. Room nights sold worldwide tripled, compared to the same time last year, from the China source market – with a 204 percent increase.

We’ve put an emphasis on bolstering our market share in Asia-Pacific this year – and the first quarter results show the impact of our added resources,” said Amir Kalmar, Chief Marketing Officer for Tourico Holidays. “Our massive, worldwide inventory of hotels and our unique contracting methodology ensure Chinese travel sellers can find a range of hotels, regardless of where they’re searching – all at industry-best rates with room for a healthy margin.

Part of the overall growth from the China source market was also fueled by inter-country bookings. Bookings from China to cities within China increased in the first quarter compared to the same time in 2015 – with Beijing bookings increasing by over 300 percent, Guangzhou by over 250 percent, and Shanghai Hangzhou and Chongqing all increasing by over 200 percent.

Tourico Holidays works on a high-volume, wholesale model to broker its inventory to clients throughout China and Asia-Pacific. Chinese travel distributors have access to 100,000 hotels worldwide, over 25,000 vacation homes, approximately 10,000 activities and transfers, 15 cruise lines and more than 10,000 different cruise departures throughout the world, and 25,000 car rental pick-up locations worldwide. Tourico’s commitment to pre-purchasing large hotel room blocks also provides clients the ability to offer their customers “Exclusive Deals” on hotels – guaranteeing discounted rates of up to 60% off of retail, no blackout dates, and last-minute availability.

Tourico opened a new office in Shanghai in 2015 and will open another two in China in 2016 to better support its local partners. Adding dedicated, highly trained employees in China will allow Tourico’s supplier and distribution clients in the region to get the professional assistance needed to reach their full potential.

Chinese airlines, rewards programs, tour operators and other travel distributors are beginning to realize the growth potential that Tourico Holidays offers their businesses,” said Kalmar.
