BESydney appoints government and stakeholder strategist to management team

Ashley White will be responsible for BESydney’s new Industry Sector teams and the company’s European and North American international offices.

Aligning with the increasing interest in Sydney and the growing priorities of the company, Australia’s leading convention bureau, Business Events Sydney (BESydney), has made the strategic appointment of Ashley White to Deputy General Manager, Bidding.

Mr White will be responsible for BESydney’s new Industry Sector teams and the company’s European and North American international offices, and will report to the General Manager, Bidding, Kristian Nicholls.

Ashley brings great experience to the team,”  said CEO of BESydney, Lyn Lewis-Smith. “Our mission is to position Sydney and New South Wales (NSW) as world-renowned, dynamic and sustainable meeting destinations by being a global thought leader in the business event sector; challenging the status quo; and by connecting, engaging with and respecting its stakeholders to deliver economic and social benefits. We have purposely sought out the skills that will differentiate us – this is a strategic appointment – and I have no doubt Ashley will add immense value to the company as our Deputy General Manager, Bidding. “

Mr Nicholls added, “Ashley brings a wealth of international strategy experience, as well as local and remote team management. He has worked closely with the NSW Government on major event projects and strategy, and prior to that he was with Austrade for over 15 years where he led whole-of-government business and diplomatic projects for the Australian Government in China, India, Japan, France, Italy, UK, Russia and South Africa.”

Most were around global events such as the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, FIFA and Rugby World Cup Tournaments plus the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) among others,” he said.

Mr White said that after 17 years generating global business outcomes for Australian industry – including the last two years developing a successful consultancy in the private sector – he was looking to reapply his commercial nous and government experience to an organisation that positively impacts the people and economy of NSW and Australia.

Having worked closely with various BESydney staff over many years, I have a deep understanding of the role of the organisation, its objectives, culture and limitations. I can see what can be achieved, and I know I can play a key role to ensure the organisation delivers this potential,” he added.

Mr White will work part time from late April while he completes the high-level business event strategy for the NSW Department of Premier & Cabinet. He will join the team full time from 6 June.
