Tasmania shines in National Awards

The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel took out the gold award ahead of some of Australia’s largest convention centres and hotels.

Business Events Tasmania (BET) congratulates industry partner The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel on their win in the Business Tourism category at the National Tourism Awards, in Melbourne.

The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel took out the gold award ahead of some of Australia’s largest convention centres and hotels.

Following the win, The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel Managing Director, Ben Targett said “We are delighted to have won the top award in the Business Tourism category two years in a row, and to be recognised as Australia’s best conference and events venue”.

To pick up this award, over some of Australia’s major competition in the Business Tourism category, is both humbling and rewarding.

This is great recognition of the professionalism and passion of the team.”

It highlights a commitment to excellence in providing quality hospitality experiences.”

Our function centre is ideal for smaller events, but when we host conferences (up to 200) and business events we do them exceptionally well, and winning this award reflects that,” continued Targett.

This year the Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel also won gold in the Deluxe Accommodation category.

Tasmania had another outstanding year at this year’s awards, with BET industry partners Pumphouse Point judged Australia’s best new tourism business and tourism legend, Robert Pennicott’s signature tour, Bruny Island Cruises, again judged Australia’s best tourist attraction.

BET industry partners Port Arthur Historic Site (Major Tourist Attractions and Cultural Tourism Categories),  Hobart’s Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre (Visitor Information Services) and Saffire Freycinet (Luxury Accommodation) all took out silver. Josef Chromy Wines won bronze in the Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services category.

BET Chief Executive Officer Stuart Nettlefold said “Tasmania’s seven gold medals perfectly represent Tasmania’s strengths in outstanding quality business events, nature tourism and unique accommodation”.

Tasmania winning a total of 19 national awards at this year’s event highlights that Tasmania’s tourism and business events industries are stronger than ever.”

Tasmania has asserted itself on the global stage as the perfect destination for national and international business events.”

As well as providing world-class conferencing facilities for up to 1100 delegates, Tasmania’s offsite venue, and pre and post touring options are particularly desirable for delegates.
