Tigerair Australia CEO Rob Sharp says the basing of three rebranded and reconfigured B-737s at Melbourne Airport further demonstrates Tigerair Australia’s commitment to the state of Victoria.
Tigerair Australia unveiled the first of three Boeing 737-800 (B737) aircraft to be branded in Tigerair livery and announced that all three additional aircraft joining the Tigerair Australia fleet will all be based at Melbourne Airport ahead of the airline’s inaugural direct services to Bali commencing 23 March 2016.*
The airline has recently recruited over 100 new cabin crew in the months ahead of the new international services to Bali who will all be trained in Victoria.
Minister for Industry Lily D’Ambrosio MP, Tigerair Australia CEO Rob Sharp and Melbourne Airport CEO Lyell Strambi, were at the official unveiling to welcome the first of three additional aircraft for Victoria.

Tigerair Australia CEO Rob Sharp says the basing of three rebranded and reconfigured B-737s at Melbourne Airport further demonstrates Tigerair Australia’s commitment to the state of Victoria.
“Tigerair Australia is proud to call Victoria and Melbourne home. Already more than 60% of our services touch Victoria. Today’s announcement means the number of aircraft based in Victoria will grow from 7 to 10 or by more than 40% by the end of March.“
“Tigerair Australia’s new services to Bali* will deliver over 2,500 additional seats through Melbourne Airport weekly. As well as more jobs and additional aircraft, today’s announcement provides numerous other benefits for the Victorian economy, tourism and consumers.“
Minister for Industry Lily D’Ambrosio says Tigerair’s announcement demonstrates the Andrews Labor Government’s ongoing commitment to support the aviation industry.
“The Andrews Labor Government is committed to supporting the aviation sector to help create local jobs and boost our economy. Tigerair Australia’s new short haul international services from Melbourne Airport create 70 local jobs and have flow on economic benefits to the state.”
Melbourne Airport CEO Lyell Strambi said “The new international service and additional aircraft are exciting steps in the Tigerair Australia offering and we’re thrilled the newly branded aircraft will call Melbourne home. The basing of three additional aircraft in Melbourne further cements Victoria’s position as Australia’s home of low fare growth and we’ll continue to work with Tigerair to further support them and Victoria.”
*Flights Between Australia and Denpasar are operated by Virgin Australia International providing a Tigerair Australia service and are subject to regulatory approvals.
