Thailand Tourism Festival 2016 to highlight unique cultures and vibrant local fairs from across the country

BANGKOK – The 36th Thailand Tourism Festival (TTF), which will be held from 13 to 17 January, 2016, at the iconic Lumphini Park, Bangkok, is set to highlight key outstanding landmarks, cultural heritages, and the best products from five major regions – North, South, East, Central, and Northeast – across the country.
 

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, “The TTF 2016 is certainly the most suitable event to kick start Thailand’s tourism in 2016. All under one single venue, the event is a centre stage for a harmonious mix of Thai cultures and quintessential Thai ways of life from the North, South, East, Central, and Northeast. Here, tourists and travellers can come to find inspirations for their next trips to explore Thailand.”
 

Set amid the 360-rai (58 hectare) lush green public park in the heart of the Thai capital, nestled amongst the skyscrapers of Bangkok’s busiest business district, the TTF 2016 will feature four distinctive zones.
 

Zone 1 will highlight the “12 Hidden Gems Plus” tourism campaign that aims to inspire travellers to visit 24 off-the-beaten-track destinations. At this zone, visitors can also experience nostalgic movies in an old-style theatre.
 

Zone 2 will feature cultural villages from five major regions of Thailand, including distinctive landmarks, cultures and ways of life, and indigenous food and craft.
 

 – The Northern village will highlight the hand-woven fabrics of the Northern people; such as, Sin fabric of Chiang Mai, Mo Hom from Phrae, Tin Chok from Sukhothai, the award-winning sheepskin Nano fabric from Mae Hong Son, and Yok Dok from Lamphun, along with a Northern Thai-style market and unique Lanna cultural performances.
 

 – The Northeastern village will feature historical religious landmarks; such as, the 5.3-metre replica of Phrathat Phanom Chedi, and demonstration of rice paddies and sacred rice rituals as well as other Buddhist rituals. Visitors will get a chance to join the sacred rituals and other fun-filled activities, shop for the region’s famous fabrics; such as, Pha Kap Bua from Ubon Ratchathani and Pha Phraewa from Kalasin, and savour the region’s famous dishes.
 

 – The Central village will showcase traditional Thai houses, traditional cultures and performances; such as, Luk Thung Thai folk music, Khon masked dance, and Likay Thai opera performances, as well as demonstrations of important ceremonies and handicraft products unique to the region.
 

 – The Southern region will feature several important religious sites; such as, the Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Shrine in Pattani, Phra Borom That Chaiya of Surat Thani, and three different styles of famous local markets. There are also unique cultural performances and demonstrations of handicraft products and famous cuisine of the region.
 

 – The Eastern region will highlight outstanding tourism attractions; such as, the Alcazar cabaret show from Pattaya, Mimoza the City of Love, along with folks and crafts, fresh fruits and seafood products which the region is most famous for.
 

Zone 3 is dedicated to 50 famous communities of Bangkok, featuring delicious dishes, desserts, and snacks, providing opportunities for tourists and travellers to try and taste different delicacies from these districts throughout Bangkok.
 

Zone 4 is the main stage for entertainment activities with celebrities and famous actors/actresses invited to colour up the event every day.
 

The 36th Thailand Tourism Festival will be open from 13-17 January, 2016, 12.00 – 22.00 Hrs.
