Tink Labs announces strategic investment from Foxconn Technology Group to propel international expansion of ‘handy’ service

The partnership, resulting from the company's latest round of fundraising, will support handy's continuous growth, with a focus on expanding into major European and Asian travel destinations.

HONG KONG – Tink Labs Limited, the Hong Kong-based tech incubator and developer of mobile travel solution handy, announces strategic investment from FIH Mobile Limited, a subsidiary of Foxconn Technology Group. The partnership, resulting from the company’s latest round of fundraising, will support handy’s continuous growth, with a focus on expanding into major European and Asian travel destinations. This will also bring the total amount of funds raised for Tink Labs to over $35,000,000 USD.

handy, first launched in September 2012, was developed to enhance the travel experience for international business and leisure travelers, keeping them connected while on the road, informed and engaged while on the ground, and enhancing the guest experience for hotels. As of November 2015, handy phones are installed in over 30% of three to five-star Hong Kong hotel rooms, and have quickly become a must-have amenity for Hong Kong’s international travelers. handy devices provide each and every guest with free local and international calls, free internet connectivity, and a personally customized city guide. handy also has a presence in leading hotels in major cities around the world, including The Fullerton Singapore, The W Istanbul, and the Sofitel Macau.

handy is synonymous with Hong Kong’s mobile-driven tourists, and a widely lauded hotel amenity on popular travel review websites. We are honored to have Foxconn on board as both an investor and a partner, and will greatly benefit from their technological expertise and global capabilities, as we aggressively expand handy’s customer base,” states Tink Labs Founder and CEO, Terence Kwok.

Wen-Hsin (Vincent) Tong, Chairman and Executive Director at FIH Mobile Limited, led Foxconn’s discussions with Tink Labs. Tong remarked, “At Foxconn, we are seeking to invest in innovative companies, such as Tink Labs, and with this additional capital injection we will support Tink Labs’ growth far beyond their Hong Kong foothold, to develop a significant global presence and customer base.
