Genting Hong Kong presents first ever cruise across culture fund-raising c elevbration on board SuperStar Virgo

"Genting Cruise Across Culture Fund-raising Night” on 14 November 2015 (Saturday) featured the first ever Cantonese opera performance combining Asian and western musical elements to be staged on board Star Cruises.

HONG KONG – Genting Hong Kong, in association with charity partners Cha Duk Chang Children’s Cantonese Opera Association and China Hong Kong Culture Exchange Association, presented “Genting Cruise Across Culture Fund-raising Night” on 14 November 2015 (Saturday) featuring the first ever Cantonese opera performance combining Asian and western musical elements to be staged on board Star Cruises.

President of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, The Honourable Tsang Jasper Yok-sing GBM, GBS, JP, attended as the evening’s officiating guest, and took part in a Cantonese opera experience session on stage with the child performers from Cha Duk Chang to demonstrate traditional Cantonese opera gestures and movements. The evening was also punctuated with spectacular performances in both Cantonese and English that helped the audience rediscover the timeless beauty of Cantonese opera reinterpreted in a fresh and novel way.

Genting Hong Kong dedicated to corporate social responsibility

With our support, we want to nurture the next generation of talent in the region and use our various ships as platforms to help introduce Chinese culture to a global audience.”

In addition to raising awareness for the art form, the evening was also a success on the charity front with HK$200,000 raised for Cha Duk Chang Children’s Cantonese Opera Association and China Hong Kong Culture Exchange Association through a combination of ticket sales and a cash donation from Genting Hong Kong.

SuperStar Virgo to embark on 46-night Southern Hemisphere voyage
The gala celebration was held on the eve of Star Cruises’ epic 46-night Southern Hemisphere voyage on board SuperStar Virgo which set sail from Hong Kong on 15 November to explore a variety of exotic ports of call until 31 December 2015 across eight different countries including Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Passengers were invited to enjoy the Cantonese opera excerpts, “Breaking the Red Lantern” and “Conferral of the Prime Minister Title Jointly by 6 States”, as a special treat before their grand journey across the equator.

When they debut, Dream Cruises’ ships will be the most spacious ships in Asia Pacific and provide the highest level of guest service in the region.

Genting Dream, Dream Cruises’ first new ship, will carry 3,400 guests and 2,000 crewmembers, delivering the highest crew-to-guest ratio at 1.7 of any Asia Pacific ship. Two exclusive floors of “Dream Suites” measuring from 32 to 183 square meters will feature European butler service and special privileges while other accommodations aboard Genting Dream will reflect both size and choice for travelers, with 70 percent of staterooms offering private balconies and more than 100 connecting rooms that will cater to larger extended families.

Genting Dream will showcase more than 35 restaurants and bars onboard with a culinary emphasis on Asia, offering dining experiences from all the regional cuisines of China as well international favorites such as Japanese, South East Asian, Italian, and more.

The new ship will also house two four-passenger submersibles that will take guests on an underwater adventure to discover the treasures of the ocean.

The launch of Dream Cruises completes the Company’s mission of having a brand for each of the three major cruise market segments – Crystal Cruises for the luxury segment, Dream Cruises for the premium segment and Star Cruises for the contemporary segment.
