ATEC: Tourism industry welcomes Perth Airport upgrade

Peter Shelley, ATEC Managing Director, said the overall upgrade to Perth Airport, including the opening of the new Domestic Pier, help international visitors to feel confident about exploring further afield than the major metropolitan destinations and will ultimately benefit tourism across Western Australia.

The Australian Tourism Export Council welcomed the new Terminal 1 Domestic Pier at Perth Airport which is due to open at the end of November.

Providing world class, modern and seamless connectivity for international travellers is extremely important in our ability to compete as an international destination and we congratulate Perth Airport on this announcement,” ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley said.

International visitors to Western Australia have grown steadily over the past 5 years and now total 835,200 visitors annually which makes up 12.7% of international visitors to Australia. Increasingly international visitors are looking to WA as ‘must visit’ holiday destination.

Providing a high quality, modern and easily navigated airport experience is something international travellers have come to expect and Perth will now be one of the leading airport experiences internationally.

Mr Shelley said the overall upgrade to Perth Airport, including the opening of the new Domestic Pier, help international visitors to feel confident about exploring further afield than the major metropolitan destinations and will ultimately benefit tourism across Western Australia.

Australia is achieving unprecedented success in exporting its tourism product across the world, with visitor numbers increasing 7% in the past 12 months to an all time high of 6.6 million visitors.

Our continued success will depend on our ability to meet the needs and expectations of the international market. Providing streamlined passenger processing at Perth Airport will help to put Western Australia in a great position to make the most of Australia’s $33.4 billion export tourism market into the future.
