PERTH – Crown Perth celebrated the ‘topping off’ of its luxury hotel development Crown Towers with a special ceremony held in front of a select audience including local politicians, members of the business community, key tourism stakeholders and other guests. Crown Towers comprises 500 new luxury rooms made up of larger than standard hotel rooms, suites and villas and brings the total number of rooms at the resort to just under 1200. In addition to luxurious hotel accommodation, a 9,800m2 resort pool with various private VIP facilities, cabanas, gardens and private pools will become a major attraction for Perth. Restaurants, bars, retail outlets, a new spa and increased convention space will integrate with existing facilities making Crown Perth an even more significant landmark for interstate, international and intrastate tourists in Western Australia.

The practice of ‘topping off’ dates back to the Scandinavian tradition of placing a tree atop a new building to appease the tree-dwelling spirits displaced during construction. Symbolising the 500 new rooms, Crown Perth celebrated this ancient rite by donating 500 trees to Burswood Park to beautify the natural surrounds and contribute to the local community.

Chief Executive Officer Crown Australian Resorts Barry Felstead said “Today’s construction milestone is extremely pleasing. We predicted a 34 month construction timeline and we are on target. More than 2,500 personnel have been involved in the construction so far and Crown will employ more than 500 new employees on completion. This will support the Western Australian economy and stimulate more international, interstate and intrastate events, conferences and conventions to be held locally.

More than 9 million visitors come to Crown each year and we continue to develop our world-class entertainment facility and experience, supporting our commitment to the tourism industry in Western Australia” Mr Felstead said.

Chris Palandri, Regional Managing Director for Brookfield Multiplex said, “we’re very pleased Crown Perth had the confidence in Brookfield Multiplex to construct the first six-star hotel in Perth.

Reaching the milestone of topping off is exciting as it not only celebrates the work that the team has achieved so far, but also confirms that the overall delivery of the project remains on time”.

Crown Towers Perth is scheduled to open in December 2016.
