TAIPEI – Continuing its roadshow across five prominent cities in East Asia, the Global Tourism Economy Forum (“GTEF” or “the Forum”) made its first official visit to Taipei on August 5. Scheduled to be held at Studio City Macau, the city’s newest iconic Hollywood-themed landmark, from 15 to 16 October 2016, this special fifth anniversary edition will be dedicated to “THE GROWING CONSUMER CLASS, RETHINKING AND RESHAPING THE FUTURE TOURISM LANDSCAPE”. GTEF 2016 will zero in on how this rising independent-minded, resourceful and tech-savvy group is more than ever the increasingly influential force in the tourism industry through thought-provoking discussion of issues related to Chinese consumers, tourism and technology, urban tourism consumption revolution, the millennial travelers and tourism investment.

While the city of Taipei is already a popular short-haul destination for travelers across Greater China region, Taiwan as a whole stands ready to unleash its enormous tourism potential given the immense opportunities for cross-strait and cross-region tourism cooperation.

Mr. Peter Wong, Vice Chairman of GTEF and Executive Chairman of China Chamber of Tourism, delivered a lecture and invited all the guests attending the roadshow to join this year’s Global Tourism Economy Forum in October in Macau.

In collaboration with its media partner Bloomberg Businessweek (Chinese edition), GTEF gathered 60 influential tourism and business leaders of Taiwan at Bloomberg’s Modern Salon at Taipei 101 International Conference Center in the afternoon of August 5th. A brief introduction of GTEF 2016 was made, giving the Taiwanese audience a glimpse of what GTEF 2016 has to offer, including intriguing exchanges on opportunities and challenges associated with the growing consumer class and how tourism stakeholders around the world can capitalize on this consumption growth; opportunities for networking, exhibition, and business matching; and exciting social programs. Among the Salon attendees were Mr. Peter Wong, Vice Chairman of GTEF and Executive Chairman of China Chamber of Tourism; Mr. Lun Kong, Deputy Director, Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits, Taipei Office; Ms. Lee-Chen Chang, Supervisor, Association of Tour Managers, Taiwan; Ms. Chi-Wei Chiang, Operation Director, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Ms. Vivian Kwok, Editor-in-Chief/Associate Publisher, Bloomberg Businessweek. Continuing the dialogue on the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Cultural Tourism started in GTEF 2015, Mr. Peter Wong delivered a lecture titled “The Belt and Road Tourism Opportunities: Exploring Taiwan’s Inherent Attraction from Cultural industry and Cultural Journey”.

Over 50 representatives from travel and tourism organizations and business elites in Taipei joined the salon.

Commenting on the importance of the Taipei roadshow, Mr. Peter Wong stated, “GTEF is well-reputed for its insights in the significance of national and international tourism-related policies, and its ability to keep abreast of the latest tourism trends and put them in perspective to inspire exciting exchanges. We are delighted to have the opportunity to share these insights with our Taiwanese tourism peers at this Salon. We are also grateful for the tremendous support we have received from Bloomberg Businessweek, and the enthusiastic reception from the Taiwan business community. We firmly believe that the Taipei roadshow has opened a new channel for promoting public-private tourism cooperation and maximizing mutual benefits from the growing consumer class across the strait.

Taipei is the third stop of GTEF 2016 Asia Roadshow after its visit to two premium tourism destinations in Beijing (July 28) and Shanghai (August 1).
