Vietjet takes delivery of Airbus’ 9000th aircraft

The new aircraft is a significant milestone for Vietjet’s strategic business plan and after three years of operations, Vietjet has fast become one of the most popular airlines in Vietnam.

SINGAPORE – Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company (“Vietjet”) had the honor of welcoming the 9000th aircraft made by Airbus at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City last week.

The aircraft is Vietjet’s first Airbus A321 and the fifth aircraft from an order of 100 aircraft made with Airbus. The new aircraft, which was purchased in a deal financed by BNP Paribas and Jackson Square has been emblazoned with the words “Airbus’ 9000th aircraft”.

The delivery of the aircraft was celebrated in a ceremony in Hamburg, Germany and was attended by Mr. Nico Peterson, Vice President of Airbus and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh, Vietnam’s ambassador to Germany.

The Airbus A321 features Sharklets wingtip devices and is the widest passenger cabin in its class. Airbus has brought the benefits of increased maximum seating to all A321 designs with further optimized cabin space and increased exits, whilst retaining the company’s modern and comfortable standards.

This latest edition will take Vietjet’s fleet up to a total of 23 aircraft and will help facilitate the airline’s expansion plans, which include opening long haul routes to South Korea, Japan and other destinations in the Asia Pacific region.

We are very proud to welcome a new A321 to our family in line with our expansion plans in Asia Pacific,” said Mr. Luu Duc Khanh, Managing Director of Vietjet. “We believe that the new fleet will further facilitate our business plans, as well as offer customers with more wonderful flying experiences.

Mr. John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer at Airbus said “It is a great honor for us to deliver the 9000th aircraft to Vietjet, a rising star amongst the airlines in Asia. The new A321 will boost Vietjet’s operation to a new level in terms of cost efficiency for single-aisle aircraft.

The new aircraft is a significant milestone for Vietjet’s strategic business plan and after three years of operations, Vietjet has fast become one of the most popular airlines in Vietnam. Vietjet currently operates 150 flights per day across 28 routes domestically and internationally. Boasting a new and modern fleet, Vietjet features fast and easy check-in services, high quality onboard offerings and has recently partnered with Lotteria Vietnam to provide greater choices to its in-flight meals.
