TAT invites travellers to celebrate Loi Krathong Festival 2014 throughout Thailand

Apart from celebrating one of Thailand’s most unique festivals, travellers from around the world are also invited to enjoy the wide of tourist attractions, ranging from unique culture, abundant natural beauty and remarkable variety of activities, including soft adventure, spa, shopping and medical tourism.

BANGKOK – Loi Krathong, one of Thailand’s most impressive and popular annual festivals, returns once again this year on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month or on 6 November.
 
The Loi Krathong Festival is celebrated nationwide in Thailand, including at seven major destinations – Bangkok, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Tak, Ayutthaya, Samut Songkram and Ratchaburi – which are highlighted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) as featuring the country’s most spectacular and unique time-honoured traditions.
 
Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik, Governor of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, “Travellers from around the world are cordially invited to visit Thailand during this period to experience one of the country’s most unique traditions that has been passed down through generations. Loi Krathong has been celebrated in Thailand for hundreds of years, and each year boasts everlasting memories for anyone who has come to experience the moments of floating the krathong as a symbol of warding off the unpleasant past and welcoming good luck.
 
Bangkok is set to celebrate the Loi Krathong Festival 2014 from 4 to 6 November at the Nakrapirom Park with spectacular displays of illuminating boats and fireworks along the Chao Phraya River, cultural performances, an exhibition of Loi Krathong traditions from all regions throughout Thailand, and the krathong floating ceremony.
 
Sukhothai has scheduled to celebrate the annual Loi Krathong and Candle Festival from 2 to 6 November at the Sukhothai Historical Park. Highlights include the krathong floating ceremony, fireworks display, krathong-making contest, light and sound presentation, cultural performances and the Royal Krathong Procession.
 
Chiang Mai has scheduled to celebrate the Yi Peng Chiang Mai Festival 2014 from 5 to 7 November at the Chiang Mai Municipal Office, Tha Pae Gate and at several temples. Main activities, include the sacred Buddhist chanting ceremony, the 23rd Yi Peng Lantern Procession, the Candle Lighting Ceremony, Yi Peng Boat Races as well as several contests and competitions.
 
Tak will celebrate the annual Royal Trophy Loi Krathong Sai Floating 1000 Lanterns 2014 from 2 to 6 November on the bank of the Ping River in Mueang district. The highlight is the competition of floating a train of 1,000 floating krathongs made from coconut shells for a royal trophy, as well as a light and sound presentation and fireworks display.
 
Ayutthaya is set to celebrate the Historical City of Ayutthaya and Loi Krathong Festival 2014 on 6 November at the Chankasem National Museum in front of the Queen Suriyothai Monument and at Thung Huntra Memorial Hall of Allegiance. Highlights include illuminating lantern decorations, cultural performances and folk music singing contest.
 
Samut Songkram has scheduled to preserve the tradition of Loi Krathong Kap Kluai Mae Klong from 6 to 8 November at the King Rama II Memorial Park in Amphawa district. Highlights include the ceremony and the display of floating krathongs made of banana trunk and folk performances.
 
Ratchaburi is set to celebrate the Amazing Loi Krathong Traditions of 8 Ethic Groups on 6 November at Rak Pracha Pattana Dam with folk performances and the krathong floating ceremony.
