Far East meets East Side: The Big Apple will get to experience Thailand, Sunday, Sept. 28

Thailand's Creativity, Diversity, Opportunity on Display at Madison Square Park

NEW YORK – The Far East meets the East Side on Sunday, Sept. 28 as visitors to Manhattan’s iconic Madison Square Park will get the special opportunity to experience Amazing Thailand at an all-day, public event full of fun, food, music, dance and much more.
 
The event is presented by the Royal Thai Consulate in conjunction with the Thai Trade Center, Thailand Board of Investment, Bank of Thailand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, as well as Singha and Chang beers, and is designed to help New Yorkers experience the incredible creativity, diversity and opportunity available in the “Land of Smiles.” There is no charge for admission at the event, which will run from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
 
Experience Thailand” day will provide the rare opportunity to witness multiple examples of Thai culture and art through colorful demonstrations and entertainment throughout the day, including:
 
– Classical Thai dance courtesy of performers who will be flown in from Thailand for the event
– Live music performances by a Thai jazz ensemble, performing compositions by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand – a noted jazz aficionado – and other famous contemporary jazz composers
– Wai Khru and Muay Thai boxing demonstration
– Fashion show by New Generation Thai designer(s)
– Cooking demonstrations by celebrated Thai Chefs, including Chef Pitipong Bowornneeranart of New York City’s acclaimed The Nuaa and Chef Pichet Ong
– Special appearance by Allison Wright, National Geographic photographer, to talk about her experiences traveling in Thailand
 
Guests can also browse the handiwork of skilled Thai craftsmen with a display of award-winning Thai silk and crafts presented as part of a touring exhibition from the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand. Known as “The Queen’s Project,” the special exhibition highlights the creative talent of Thai villagers throughout the country.
 
A showcase of made-in-Thailand products will be presented by the Phillips Collection along with paintings and crafts by the Thai Artist Alliance. Kids and adults alike will also enjoy an umbrella painting station, where guests can decorate and customize traditional oil-paper umbrellas. The Tourism Authority of Thailand will be on hand as well to help guests learn how they can visit Thailand for themselves and experience the many wonders presented first-hand.
 
In addition to stunning artistry, visitors can taste the renowned flavors of Thailand with favorite dishes such as Pad Thai, sticky rice, papaya salad, green curry fried rice, Thai noodles and much more available for purchase from outstanding New York metropolitan area Thai restaurants including:
 
– QiCurry  
– Tea Cup Cafe
– Tapaz by Topaz
– The Nuaa 
– Port Thai Place
– Pata Pa-Plean
 
Special culinary treats will also be available from the cook at the Consul-General’s residence.
 
Adding to the festive atmosphere, Thailand’s popular Singha and Chang beers will be available for purchase in a designated beer garden for adults 21 and older who present legal identification.
 
Guests will also have the opportunity to “picture themselves” in Thailand through a virtual green screen background that will allow a choice of exotic Thai backdrops for photos that can be uploaded to social media.
 
According to Thailand’s Consul-General, Mr. Rasmee Chittham, the event will be a rare opportunity to bring the Thailand experience to New Yorkers who may have not yet had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and heritage of the kingdom.
