Queensland and Flight Centre announce $6 million partnership

TEQ Chief Executive Leanne Coddington said the new agreement was a first for TEQ with a travel retailer and continued the organisation’s focus on strengthening commercial partnerships.

Tourism and Events Queensland and Flight Centre Travel Group have announced a new $6 million commercial partnership to promote Queensland globally as a premier tourism and events destination.
 
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Jann Stuckey joined with Flight Centre’s Managing Director Graham Turner to announce the three-year agreement between TEQ and Flight Centre, designed to further strengthen inbound tourism to Queensland.
 
The agreement will see the two partners work more closely to promote travel to Queensland’s destinations from some of the state’s most valuable visitor markets including the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia,” Ms Stuckey said.
 
This partnership with Australia’s largest travel retailer will promote Queensland as the premier tourist destination and deliver on the election promise to grow tourism as one of the four pillars of the economy.
 
The Queensland Government’s 20-year plan for tourism Destination Success outlines the importance of partnering with industry to support the growth of tourism in the state, working toward the goal of $30 billion in overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.

We are always looking for new ways to deliver on TEQ’s objective to increase visitor numbers, length of stay and tourism spend across Queensland destinations and this partnership with Flight Centre is a fantastic fit,” Ms Coddington said.
 
This landmark deal will strengthen the marketing of Queensland destinations and holiday experiences.”
 
It ensures a year-round approach is adopted to keep Queensland destinations top of mind amongst Flight Centre customers with extensive in-store and online promotions.
 
Flight Centre Travel Group’s Managing Director Graham Turner said the agreement represented a 52-week a year approach to marketing Queensland.
 
It’s a major destination for our customers in Australia and abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, so we welcome the opportunity to strengthen our offering for travellers,” said Mr Turner.
 
We expect to see the Queensland tourism market grow substantially over the next few years as we gear up for major events such as the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
 
Flight Centre Australia is Australasia’s largest travel company with more than 700 stores and more than 3,000 travel agents.
