10th anniversary facelift unveils new look & branding of J Plus Hotel by YOO

A refreshed new look and branding of the former J Plus Boutique Hotel in Causeway Bay as J Plus Hotel by YOO is unveiled on May 22, 2014 following a bold HK$10 million makeover by world class YOO Studio.

HONG KONG – On its 10th anniversary, the iconic fashionista address has been “redefined’ for the next decade by YOO, founded by design guru Philippe Starck and entrepreneur John Hitchcox.

A new-look façade “pulls back the curtains” to reveal the buzzing street-level lobby and the main entrance, previously tucked away discreetly in Irving Street, is now switched to a much larger and more prominent entry in Pennington Street.

Interiors also have a creative new lease of life bearing avant garde design elements that unmistakably reflect YOO’s unconventional DNA, from playfully coloured fabrics by feted designers such as ‘Timorous Beasties’ to eclectic imported European furniture.

Yellow, orange and red tinted glass panels inscribed with Chinese motifs of coins, dragons and bamboo are introduced as symbols of good fortune.

A giant entry panel artwork bears an uncanny resemblance to Leonardo’s enigmatic Mona Lisa, playfully symbolising both the Renaissance in European culture and the hotel’s own rebirth.

J Plus by YOO has been reimagined with a fresh new look for 2014,” said YOO Design Director Mathew Dalby.

The comprehensive makeover is being completed with bright design for the hotel’s 32 luxurious studios and 24 stylish, spacious suites, which are styled in four vivid colour themes.

In celebration of its dramatic new image, a special celebratory room package is offered from May 22-31, 2014. Available on a first come-first served basis, guests booking a standard room receive a complementary upgrade to a sumptuous 780 sq ft suite.

A host of extras include two bottles of sparkling “Joiy” Riesling from New Zealand, a choice of six bottles of Noble Isles 75ml from Britain, and “Szabotage” postcards & notepads especially designed for J Plus Hotel by YOO.

In celebration of our first multi-award winning decade, this iconic address is now redefined and refreshed for the future,” said J Plus Hotel by YOO General Manager Vivian Chau.

YOO Studio Design Director Mathew Dalby added: “In a city so synonymous with change, this refreshed restyling continues our design house’s legacy of contemporary, imaginative and sophisticated creativity to surprise and delight even the most jaded traveler.”

As a tribute to its past successful decade, J Plus Hotel by YOO is launching a year-long style initiative known as ‘J+YOO Style’ reaching out to Hong Kong’s creative and fashion conscious crowd through initiatives building awareness for the great wealth of artistic talent in Hong Kong’s very own backyard.
