Thai AirAsia gives a new impulse to Krabi

Low cost carrier Thai AirAsia is developing Krabi market with new routes and frequencies to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Singapore.

BANGKOK – The AirAsia Group was already offering frequencies from Krabi to both Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. The airline is now strengthening its presence from Thailand’s popular seaside resort by adding two new routes: Krabi – Chiang Mai and Krabi – Singapore. It will in parallel increase the frequency of its Bangkok-Krabi flights to eight daily to spur tourism to the southern destination.

The airline inaugurates the new additions with a promotional fare starting from only 690 THB per way available until 27 October, 2013 (inclusive of airport tax and fees).

Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO Thai AirAsia, said AirAsia is forging ahead with the strengthening of its flight network by continually enhancing popular routes.  He pointed out that Krabi is a popular destination for both Thai and foreign tourists. While the Bangkok – Krabi flight has had its frequency increased several times, it has still yet to match demand.  In this most recent enhancement, the flight frequency will be increased to 8 flights a day starting 25 November, 2013.

“We believe that connecting Krabi to a variety of other destinations will provide travellers with more convenience and will thus be introducing Krabi-Singapore this 25 November, 2013 and Krabi-Chiang Mai this 15 December, 2013”.

The additions will make AirAsia the airline with the most flights to Krabi with up to 12 daily frequencies. The carrier flies to Bangkok eight times daily, to Chiang Mai and Singapore once daily each and to Kuala Lumpur twice daily.

According to data from Thailand Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Krabi welcomed 2.54 million travellers, up by 28.1% in commercial accommodation in 2012, including 1.37 million foreign travellers  (+10.3 Swedes made the largest group of foreign travellers generating 173,000 arrivals followed by Germans (119,000 arrivals) and Australians (66,000).
