Mystic Point to open at Hong Kong Disneyland on May 17

Engaging launch activities will immerse travel trade in a mysterious journey.

HONG KONG – Hong Kong Disneyland Resort announced that Mystic Point, the third and final chapter of its HK$3.6-billion expansion plan, will be unveiled on May 17, 2013, adding to the Resort a new and original experience and one of the most sophisticated attractions ever built by Disney.

This new themed land is home to brand new characters, special effects and architecture, each of which seamlessly blends with state-of-the-art technology designed to bring the original story of an eccentric explorer Lord Henry Mystic and his travel companion, a monkey called Albert, memorably to life.

Webinar gives travel trade a sneak peek of an unparalleled journey
“This unique themed land has inspired the Resort’s Sales and Distribution Marketing team to put imagination into action in showcasing Mystic Point’s story, attractions and the new products to our travel trade partners. By end of April we will be at full gear to kick off a series of trade launch events across Asia, inviting the travel trade communities to a truly mysterious journey and introducing new business opportunities that Mystic Point will bring,” said Terruce Wang, Vice President, Sales and Distribution Marketing, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

A four-session online webinar series headlined the launch of trade marketing activities. Designed as ‘edutainment’ – product information offered with a dose of Disney-style entertainment – the webinars are fronted by Lord Henry’s grandnephew, who will share the story of Mystic Point. A Walt Disney Imagineer will also take to the webinar stage to offer an insider’s perspective of the innovative technology that has gone into developing this first-of-its-kind attraction. In creating this edutainment approach, the Resort hopes to spark the travel trade’s imagination and creativity in taking Mystic Point to market.

In addition to the webinars, three exclusive preview days – May 7, 10 and 11 – have been earmarked for the travel trade to explore and immerse them in the full Mystic Point experience. To sustain momentum, trade-marketing activities will continue following the grand opening with interactive and entertaining trade briefings from May to June across Asia, including Mainland China, Taiwan and Korea. By bringing Mystic Point’s extraordinary adventure to Asia’s trade communities, the Resort hopes to inspire partners to develop new products that will appeal to their guest segments, be it leisure, corporate and MICE markets.

Spreading Disney’s magic through strong travel trade partnerships
“With the opening of Mystic Point and the completion of the current expansion plan, Hong Kong Disneyland will offer over 100 attractions, entertainment facilities and shows, further strengthening the Resort’s appeal across all segments. The Sales and Distribution Marketing team looks forward to celebrating this special moment with our travel trade partners and we will work even closer to create lifelong memories for our Guests,” added Wang.

An unparalleled adventure beckons at Mystic Point
Mystic Point lies hidden in a mysterious location in a tropical forest. Its owner, Lord Henry Mystic, has travelled extensively to exotic locations around the world to acquire antiquities and oddities, all of which are housed in his Victorian home, known as Mystic Manor.  Lord Henry has graciously opened his renowned private museum to a select few, who will enjoy the privilege of touring Mystic Manor on his latest invention – the “Mystic Magneto-Electric Carriage”.  Albert, Lord Henry’s trusted companion, is particularly interested in a newly acquired music box, and by opening it he will send Guests on a highly immersive adventure filled with surprises, special effects, and theatrical wonders.

In addition to the projection technology that creates unique visuals, a haunting tune and special music overlay, created by renowned composer Danny Elfman, weaves its way through the rooms of Mystic Manor.

“Mystic Magneto-Electric Carriage” is by far the most sophisticated ride system in Disney’s history. Every guest will be privy to a front-row experience, as the attraction is trackless, using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and a wireless communication system to control the movement of 32 vehicles simultaneously.

Also part of Mystic Point is the Explorer’s Club Restaurant, where guests can enjoy Asian cuisines as well as Halal-certified food amid a vast collection of unusual artifacts from around the world.  Exclusive curiosities and collectibles are available at The Archive Shop for Guests to purchase.
