Bora Bora top destination of choice for Romantic South Africans

The Polynesian islands of Bora Bora are the top destination of choice for Romantic South Africans according to a survey conducted by the country’s biggest online travel agency Travelstart.

From a list that includes firm favourites for romantics, like Paris and Venice, 35 per cent of voters selected Bora Bora as their favourite choice.

Bora Bora is unique as it’s quite possibly one of the furthest destinations for travellers to get to from South Africa.

It takes over 50 hours to reach the islands and is one of the most expensive trips on earth for South Africans to make. The trip would easily set a couple backover R80,000.

But when it comes down to it the travel agency found that staying within budget was key.

Travelstart said that most South Africans tend to opt for more affordable beach destinations closer to home like Mauritius, Mozambique, Zanzibar and theSeychelles.

An obvious runner up to Bora Bora was Thailand, a long time favourite for South Africans due its breathtaking scenery, cheap prices and the fact that it’svisa-free for SA passport holders.

Voted at the bottom of the poll was a trip to Las Vegas to tie the knot.

A visit to arguably one of the world’s most romantic buildings, India’s Taj Mahal also featured as a favorite among facebook followers of the site.

As the largest online travel agency in South Africa, Travelstart also has the widest and most active travel community on Facebook in S.A. and regularly posts interesting travel inspiration and advice on its page.
