Cruise Copenhagen Network (Destination of the Year), Port of Falmouth, Jamaica (Port of the Year), Hobart GmbH (Onboard Supplier), Toby Biddick’s Green World Tours for Carnival UK (Environmental Initiative), Iceland Travel’s ‘Reykjavik to the Rescue’ (Innovative Shorex) and Viking River Cruises (River Cruise Initiative) were all honoured yesterday evening as winners in the fifth Seatrade Insider Cruise Awards, principal sponsor Fidelio Cruise, presented at the Seatrade Europe 2011 Party, in the Schmidts Tivoli Theatre, Hamburg.
In addition, Michael Thamm, president AIDA Cruises, was named North European Cruise Personality of the Year, an award sponsored by the Mauro Terrevazzi Foundation and V. Ships and selected by Seatrade and V. Ships from nominations received.
In selecting Mr. Thamm for this prestigious award, Seatrade Communications said, ‘Michael Thamm is one of the outstanding personalities in the European cruise industry. Under his leadership AIDA Cruises has developed into one of the most admired brands in Europe with its innovative global deployment strategy and its unique onboard offering. Under his stewardship the fleet has expanded significantly, with a new ship added every year for the past five years and the company has another four vessels on order, including two significantly larger, new-generation Clubships, recently signed with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan.’ V.Ships, ceo Andrea Zito presented the Award to Thamm.
